  • Body / Glass: Hood Prop retainer Clip?

About 1 out of every 10 times I open my hood and flip up the hood prop, it pulls out of its bottom hole.

When I look at the Chassis parts catalog I see that there is a retaining clip. I assume that I am missing it.

I looked the part # up for the clip but SI doesn't have it. Is there a "CASO make do "alternative?

Post the part number and maybe someone here will have one for you.

Drill a small hole in it. Put a washer and a cotter pin in it. Good luck with the drill! Or run a few threads on it with a die and put a nut on it.

How 'bout a "push nut", like the ones that hold the wheels on a kids tricycle? They're available at local hardware stores.

                Perry, that's exactly it.

                Skybolt, thanks for the link.

As to the other ideas, I may try them as well.

                Thanks to all!!

The same basic clips are all over the place at a local scrap yard. Easiest way to get correct size is find a small bolt the same size as your hood support... then carry it with you. I imagine most auto parts store would have some close ones as well.

I have broken several of those clips trying to install them. No matter how careful I am, I've yet to get one on....I just gave up and do without.

I had this clip for a couple of years in my parts stash after purchasing it and could not figure out how it was installed. Finally someone posted a picture of it and put it in within a couple of minutes. As I recall there was a trick to it's installation. I believe you have to install the clip then insert the prop rod.

The clip from SI fit my '51 but would go on the '53 no way no how.
