  • Cool/Heat: engine casting plugs

I've read the previous discussions/arguments on the name to be used for engine casting plugs and do not want to get this going again. I don't really care what they are called, but would like someone to tell me what company makes the dish type plugs used on my 55 v-8 so I can order them through a local parts store such as Napa. If someone knows the supplier and maybe a part # for them- they are 1-1/2"- it would be appreciated. Thanks.

clifford,...Just a thought.....If Your going to order these plugs, You might give Dave Thibeault a call. I overhauled a '55 259 last winter, and along with the other parts, Dave sold me a set of BRASS concave freeze plugs. They 'set' in easily...also...no rust ever!

Steel Core Plugs have a limited life, where as Brass do not, at least in most of our lifetimes.
So that probably is: Dorman 568-009.

Dorman # 550-022 is the brass plug most often noted as a replacement on this site. I used Dorman #565-028 (it was the one already in the block as a previous replacement and was a VERY tight fit).
