  • Distributor vacuum port

I'm installing an Edelbrock 500 on my '62 Hawk 289. I need to determine if the distributor vacuum port is timed (no vacuum at idle) or full (vacuum present at idle). I have already removed the carb and thought the answer was in my manual but I can't find it. Reading between the lines from some manual distributor info I would guess vacuum is present at idle.

    Regards,
    John

I am not sure about the Edelbrock clone, but the Carter AFB on my 259 has a vacuum port on the left (as facing the carb) that is higher and has no vacuum at idle, and a port on the right that does have vacuum at idle. (The PCV port is in the center.) I have the left port plumbed to the vacuum advance.
