Repair Manual for 1955 E5 Truck?

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to find out what is the best repair manual for the 1955 E5 Truck. I'm just looking for a manual to help guide me as I fix various things during my restoration. I found some on on Studebakerparts.com (see link below) but wasn't sure which one I need. The one at the bottom says 1956-64 (mine is a 1955) but says it covers series 2E through 8E? Is there a better one out there?

Shop Manual for 55

Just looking at my Studebaker International 2012 Parts catalogue (hard copy). On page 19 there is a 1954/55 (2R-E) series Shop Manual listed as part # 801705 for $40. That would be the one you require. If you do not have it, you should also get the Truck Parts Catalogue - shown on page 17 of the SI catalogue it covers 49 to 56 trucks (2R to 2E series), part # 800440, listed at $45.

Studebaker never printed a shop manual for the 1955 E series. They did publish a service bulletin that directs the dealer shop to refer to various other manuals and service bulletins, namely S.B. 293, 296, 297, and the 1955 car shop manual. This must be what S.I. added to their 3R books. I think if you had the later 2E-8E shop manual, it would have everything you need.

I have a 55 E-7 truck and use the 56 - 64 manual. It works fine for me because my 55 has been converted to 12 volts and 56 and newer were 12 volts. Other than the voltage change I don't see much different between a 55 and 56 model.
