  • Other: Adding Power Locks to a Hawk - installation pictures

One of the modern conveniences I've been missing in my 59 Hawk is remote locking and unlocking.

i found a $25 kit on ebay and thought I'd give it a try.

    Here's the kit:http://www.ebay.com/itm/170865866318...84.m1439.l2649

It came with no instructions, but it was pretty straight ahead.

I've done the driver's door, and made pictures in case someone else wanted to try it.

the first step is to remove the door cards.

The I tested the area beneath the door lock to see if the power mechanism would interfere with the window. I could hold the actuator in place and roll the window up and down without hitting anything so i figured I'd give it a try.

I like it! Definitely would make getting in & out of the car a lot easier.

I knew the the new rod would need to somehow get behind the door panel, so I drilled a hole directly below it.

REMINDER - keep your window rolled up & out of the line of fire anytime you drill into your door panel!

By laying the actuator on the outside of the door I was able to mark where to drill the mounting holes.

Here's an idea of where the actuator will be once it is mounted inside the door.

I fed the rod up thru the new hole and mounted the actuator inside the door.

Then I clamped the new rod to the old one.

Wired it up, pushed the button on the remote, and remote door locking Nirvana arrived!

Once the door panel is on, you can't tell the mod has been performed!

Now on to the rest of the installation (drilling holes thru the doorjambs and mounting the receiver/controller, not to mention doing the passenger door!)

        Have fun!
