Just returned from the five day AACA Glidden tour held in and around Chattanooga, Tennessee last week (Sept 9-13). Of the 230+ pre WWII cars Studebakers were well represented. Funny, I think of how the Studebaker Drivers Club has “drivers” as a middle name but does so little actual driving at its meets. The Antique Studebaker Club members, on the other hand, have cars 10, 20, 30 or even 40 years older yet makes driving a part of all their meets and think nothing of taking their cars out for extended tours. For example Jerry Kurtz (’37 Dictator), Charlie Steffy (1941 Commander) and Jim Shoul (1946 Champion) drove their cars over 500 miles to get to the meet from their homes in Pa then over 300 miles during the tour and another 500 home for a total of over 1300 miles and think nothing of it. To these guys and many others in the ASC members every day is “Drive Your Studebaker Day!”

Great-looking cars. I wish I'd known about this event. Chattanooga is only about one hundred miles from here.
