  • Steering: Steering gear coupling

I am restoring a 56 Golden Hawk with Saginaw power steering. The worm shaft on the steering gear has two holes in the splined end. The steering shaft also has two holes. I assume that a pin goes through these to mate the two, but I can't find anything in the manual that talks about a pin and I want to make sure I do this right. Does anybody know for sure if there should be a pin that mates these two?

Yes, there is a pin, part #1547173. I think S.I. still has these. It is a solid pin that replaces the original hollow roll pin. There is a couple of service bulletins covering the pin and loose fitting flanges.
