  • Steering: size of steering box output shaft

I need to know the size of the output shaft of the steering gear box on my 53 K body in order to buy the correct u-joint to attach it to a new steering column. Does anyone know that size in inches (1inch, 3/4 etc.)? If so, thanks in advance

? Pete I am trying to figure out what you are planing to do. Cut the shaft and and weld in a stub? Then you can use any U-joint you want. The shaft itself is 13/16". The end of the stock column has a worm gear on it.

If you plan to go through the effort of changing the column, might you be further ahead switching the entire steering box?

What are your plans/vision for the completed project?
