Please somebody explain to me how this option works on the 55 Champion . How to engage and disengage ?

Ther is a handle under the dash on the left side of the steering column. If it is pulled out. OD is inoperative, its just like a regular 3 speed transmission. Most of us drive with it in (pushed in) 100% of the time. You have to remember to park in reverse, otherwise the car will roll when the engine is off.
if it is pushed in, OD is possible. Below about 30 mph the transmission is out of OD and will freewheel when coasting. when the speed exceeds about 30 mph, and the gas pedal is released, the transmission will automatically shift into OD and you will have engine braking and slower RPMs as you accellerate.
If these things don't happen, something is wrong.
