  • Rear Axle: What size is the nut on a tapered rear axle?

    I'm getting ready to pull the rear drums on a '62 GT Hawk and I need to know what size socket I'll need for the axle nut.

    '56 Golden Hawk (3 speed/overdrive, Power steering - Running, but not yet driving)
    '58 Packard Hawk. A partially restored car that was not completely assembled.

    IIRC its a 1 1/4".

        Quite a bit smaller than the nut behind the wheel.
