What is the correct 4bl carburetor for a '56 Packard 352?...

  • #2
Which specific model? Some came with a Carter WCFB and others with the Rochester 4GC.

The "Senior" 1955-56 Packards (Caribbean, 400, Patrician) used the Rochester, the Clippers & Exec (when equipped with a 4bbl) and Golden Hawk used the Carter.

PACKARD8 - Thank you for the information. Would you happen to know the number on the '56 Golden Hawk Carter AFB?...

As Jack Vines noted, the 56 GH used the Carter WCFB, not an AFB. Not sure of the correct WCFB tag number, maybe someone has that info at their fingertips. An AFB (or Edelbrock clone) can be fitted, but you will need to enlarge the bores on the intake to accommodate it. I have a 374 Packard Marine V8 conversion running an Edelbrock 750 CFM marine carb, and if I recall correctly we had to enlarge the intake bores about 1/8 inch to match the carb....pretty easy job for your local machine shop.

On a '56J GH, the Brass Tag under a top "Air Horn" screw should read: 2394S on the Carter WCFB.
