  • 1960 Studebaker Lark convertible

    Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and am wondering if anyone else on this forum has a 1960 Lark convertible (259.2 cu in - 4.2L)? I bought one a few weeks back and just love it. There were only 2700 or so made and I'm curious how many may still be in operational condition.

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul

Here is one usually Happy owner, this post just isn't one of Her happiest!

Just last week there was another I believe "New" owner of a '60 Convert, another very NICE Car, they are clearly THE Model in the '60 Lark line to preserve, collect and enjoy the most.
You have a beautiful Car, the non-original Color, Cragar Mags and way too high front ride height, does not seem to completely ruin the cool look!

Welcome to the Forum! I hope by now that you have joined SDC, from this site.
I owned a 1960 Lark VIII AT convertible that I used for my everyday work car.
I do not know where your number came from. I believe that there were 8571 1960 Lark convertibles.

I just renewed my plates this month (California $128.00) for my 60 convertible even though I think its disgusting to have to pay more for license plates than what it costs for insurance. I can shop for cheaper insurance but the only thing I can save on my plates is the extra for the "vanity" plate. It needs a front end alignment but is a great driver otherwise.

I love the look of your "new" car. That rake we used to call when I was a kid in New Jersey "the California rake." I intend on getting a set of Keystone mags for mine, just like I have on my 66 Daytona & my everyday driver Ranger.

Welcome to the Forum, Paul. May I join with everyone else in gushing how outrageously cool your car is. How many are extant? I don't know the exact figure, but you can bet more than a few. Even at that, they're a very rare bird!

                      Congrats on a wonderful find!

I own one as well. My research shows a total of 8571 built. 5464 8 cylinder and 3107 6 cylinders. I know of 2 others that are on the road, 1 parts car and 1 under restoration in my part of the world. I was looking for a project car and it took me 3 years to find one on e-bay. They don't come up for sale that often so you are indeed fortunate to have found such a good looking specimen. Keep on cruisin and enjoy it, thats what I am doing with mine and by the way, do join the club. You join for the cars and stay because of the people
