      I used to work with a guy that rode bikes competitively. He had thighs like the guy in this video.

        Back in the late 80's I took my kids to watch a group of students from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo attempt to fly a human powered helicopter.
        It got off the floor of the hanger for a very brief time before it broke. Very interesting and fun to watch.

          As the Flying Nun use to say, "Lift plus thrust equals drag." Those props were a whole bunch bigger than a nun's habit. The guy pedaling sure looked strained. But, WOW - what a great feat!

                With all due respect to Sally Fields and nuns in general, she didn't have thrust. And since her hat created all the lift, she would have had to have awfully strong hairpins...and hair.
