  • Jan Lockmon, longtime SDC Secretary passed away Sunday June 23, 2013.

Here is the info I got a few minutes ago.

    From: Christine Lockmon
Date: Sun, Jun 23, 2013 at 10:14 AM

Her health has been getting worse and counts were too low the last two weeks to do chemo. This morning she got up to go to the bathroom and collapsed. She was gone before the rescue team arrived.
I was on the plane getting ready to push back for a flight to Chicago and San Jose. My job at MRF starts tomorrow. Fortunately, Don was able to reach the police who were able to get the plane stopped and reopened.
We are headed to Indy and will fly to Phoenix this evening.
I don't believe there will be any services in the short term. Most of mom and dad's friends are away right now. The annual Studebaker meet is this week in Colorado. I'll keep you posted as I know more though.
Mom has been in such pain these past few months, I'm relieved that she is now at peace. I know she didn't want to go, she was stubborn, but I'm glad it was relatively fast. Please keep dad in your thoughts and prayers. They celebrated 54 years together on Friday--it's going to be very tough for him. Molly too. . .
    Hug your family.

    Love,
    Chris

    Chris,

I'm very sorry to hear of Jan's passing, and I will be praying for you and your dad and the rest of the family. The SDC is a much better organization because of Jan's efforts over the years.

Richard Dormois asked me to pass this on. He is preparing a Memorial Service for Jan Lockmon and wants to get out the word to her friends. The service is 10:00 AM TO 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July3, 2013, in the Centenial Room of the Elegante (formerly Crowne Plaza) Hotel in Colorado Springs. Thank You.

So sorry to hear of this, Denny. What a fine lady! BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

Peter: I just noticed reference to Jan being SDC Treasurer.

She was actually the SDC Board Secretary many years; not Treasurer. I don't believe she ever served as Treasurer. BP

Bob: Yes, I was mislead by the original notice I got and just copied it over before I had a chance to check it out. She was Secretary for the SDC board of directors for 15 years and served on the board of directors for the Studebaker Foundation as well. I have prepared a two page tribute for the Remembrance project that will have a table set up in the Pikes Peak room. Jan is the last of 30 individuals I have prepared tributes for the 3013 Remembrance Project. The eldest being 101 and the youngest being 50.

BTW, Jan and Denny's daughter indicated that the obituary Gary just posted, was personally written by Jan.

"Always prepared," their daughter said! BP

I was on the Board when Jan was Secretary. Her permanent smile and good humor makes me smile today. Sorry for your loss Denny and family.

Jan was short in stature but stood tall in deed as a beloved member and longtime officer of our Studebaker Drivers Club. We have all shared a lot of laughs and good times with Jan. I missed her when she and Denny retired to Arizona. My condolences to Denny and the entire Lockmon family.
