AOAI Avanti Magazine No. 162 and the Stellar Scholars Avanti Awards -- This summer's Avanti Magazine, published by AOAI, features an original painting by artist Don Wieland on the cover. The painting won the "Artistic Award" from Stellar Scholars for the artist and was the inspiration for young writers to compete in the Stellar Scholars "Aurora Awards" scholarship program. The winning entry for 2013, a very short story by student writer, Ethan Hamill, named "The Passenger" is reprinted inside. This was the second painting by Wieland commissioned by Stellar Scholars; it depicts the "advanced thinking and progressive design symbolized by the now-iconic Studebaker Avanti with the appearance of sleek, silvery disks piloted by beings of alien origin." The first was "Gold out of South Bend." That painting depicts a "1963 Avanti over a cloverleaf with the old Studebaker plant and an early-sixties South Bend skyline in the background." Reproductions of both Wieland paintings are available in two formats exclusively at TheAvantiStore.
