Yes, it is a Studebaker (looks like a 1916 model 17) but who is the guy standing in the tonneau? I do not know the occasion or the year taken but if you are a student of history you should recognize the man with hat in hand!

      Dick,
I do fancy myself on U.S history but cannot pick the noteable person. Regardless, I love the photo.

Why, that is Calvin Coolidge, President of the U.S. from 1923-29 and Vice President under Warren G. Harding. Coolidge assumed the presidency upon Harding's death and was re-elected in 1924. He was from Vermont and his wife lived until 1957 (he died in 1933). As a kid, I was a student of various presidents!

Gold star for Bill. Especially for being able to recall all of that at 6:19 on a Saturday morning! I'm still on my first coffee.

Jim, thanks. I'm full of useless information like that, none of which can make me any money or help me work on an old car! LOL

                  Great photo Richard!
I wonder where the photograph was taken?
That railroad station looks very familiar.

The military man in the back is NOT Pershing. Bio states he retired in 24.

Dick do you think a google image search may find other Internet photos containing the structure behind the car? May be clue as to WHERE.

The first name that came to my mind was Wally Cox! I did know he would have been too young to be the person so my next guess was Silent Cal.

You win Bill. Congratulations. He was the only President born on the 4th of July and was sworn into office by his own father (who was a justice of the peace). Though known as silent Cal he held more news conferences than any President before or since and was the first President to deliver his inaugural speech via radio. You are correct re his years as president 1923-29 and since this photo shows a Studebaker of the 1916-17 vintage I am guessing it was been taken prior to his presidency when he was Lt Governor of Massachusetts (1916-1919), he later became governor, 1919-21 . There is a monogram on the side of the car that reads P.R.S. or P.P.S. so it was not his car. This is actually an old photo post card I bought off Ebay about 5 years ago. The seller did not identify either Coolidge or the Studebaker in the item title or description so obviously did not know either the car or the person so was able to buy it at the minimum bid. Pays to know your history sometimes, or Bill, another way of saying sometimes useless information has a use. By the way he does look a lot like Wally Cox!
