  • 1954 Commander Starliner paint question

When the 54 Commander was bought about 15 years ago, it had a faded gold color, oil bath, air cleaner; is that the correct color, if not what color is it supposed to be? Ken, Deltaville, Va

I believe the gold engine parts were 55 President series only. The 54 should be black.

Are the parts interchangeable between the 54 & 55? If so, possibly it was later replaced by a 55 part?

Bezhawk nailed it. The 55 President (4bbl) had a gold filter. The 55 Commander (2bbl) was black, like the 54.

Thanks for info. This air cleaner is on a 4 barrel, assume it still should be black? Ken

Chances are your '54 four barrel air cleaner came from a '55 car along with the carb and manifold, as no four barrel option was available on 1954 Studebakers.

Since 4 Barrels were not used on the 232 Engine, it is possible the Engine is a '55 224 or 259.

Does it have the Fuel Pump on the Oil Filler Pipe or the Timing Cover?
