Transmission / Overdrive: Trans swap

Would a manual OD trans from a 51 champ work in a 53 commander? The 53 trans is bad but the 51 is ok. Would it be a direct replacement? Thanks

Sorry, no. The Champion is a much lighter duty transmission, a Borg-Warner T-96. The Commander is much stronger a T-86. The top plate on the Champion would have 4 bolts, the Commander 6.
