I'm betting it's not even a Stude part. IF it's an air horn of some sort, "S" could easily stand for Sparton as well as Studebaker - and Sparton made horns of all sorts thru the 20th century.

Looks to be 2-3 inches across. My guess is vacuum ashtray

It could be part of a carbide lamp for a early turn of the century car.

Studebaker did not own the letter "S". Looks like a gas burner for a stove.

Its a very early Studebaker Stop Watch.

Was there another one with it that has the letter "P" on the top?
If so, I may have an idea.

This is a horn - air, vacuum - hard to say. If you look at the ebay pics, you can see a diaphragm adjustment screw. Also, there's a set screw in the neck of the cast metal half. Likely that screw held the trumpet bell. It could be a Sparton - it could be any number of aftermarket accessory makers. There's no way to tell from just the S it wears.

Could it be a spool for some kind of winch?
