  • The "Other" Studebaker Indy Car

http://whiteglovecollection.com/vehi...0Hupmobile.asp John Shanahan was telling me about this car the other day and sent this link to me.

EDIT: This car's Indy history started life as a Studebaker

    Interesting to say the least.
It looks a lot like several versions of the Mormon Meteor.

Just look at the pole car for the 1931 Indy 500

There are several mentions of this car with Studebaker and then later Hupmobile powerplants.

In 1931 Russell Snowberger entered his own Studebaker Indy car into the Indianapolis 500 and started on the pole and he finished 5th. Hupmobile at that time wanted to get into the Indianapolis 500 and coaxed Russell to pull the Studebaker motor out of his race car and install a Hupmobile H engine, of his design, to race at Indy for the Hupp Corporation.

This quote fits your story well. This car had nothing to do with studebaker. I seen it at Snowbergers house before Bloomquest bought it. The only connection is Snowbergers Hupmobile indy engine was in it at one time.

Thanks, Rex. I guess I should have been more specific on the lineage originally. The article doesn't talk about the addition of lights at one point to get the car licensed for the road. How did that story go?
