OK, here's a picture of Steve Rainville's 55 Commander that was rear ended on the way home from the Stockton meet. They say it is worse than it looks but any damage is just a crying shame, especially under the circumstances. Also is a picture of the Toyota that definitely got the worst of it. Who says new cars are stronger...

They say they "fold up" with "crumple zones" to lessen the impact to the Passengers, but they are usually done then.

Depending on the year which will dictate the value the Toyota may very well be "Totaled", as in NOT repaired by the Insurance Co.

It appears that the Toyota driver was trying to pass and was blind in one Eye and could not see out the other!

Well, with Camrys (and Accords) being the best selling passenger cars for many years running (and lasting so long, despite what some of you may say) that makes it all the more likely that if you're hit, that will be the car most likely to be involved.

The bigger question is: Why the heck are Studes from Citrus Heights being hit?

I remember when I managed a body shop in the late 80's in phoneix Az. I had a young guy come in for a est. on a 48 chev that he had gotten from his Grandpa. Had some damage on the Lt front on bumper and around the head light but door opened fine and other than that looked good. Said he got run into head on by a toyota. Said he drove it back almost to the firewall and had to run the guy up the street to the hospital in his chev .

Makes you wonder, though.....
People in today's cars are programmed to see these huge (many times LED, now) tail lights with all sorts of stuff blazing out back.
And along comes a vintage car with a single 1157 tail light.

People do get desensitized.....

I talked to Steve yesterday and he and Jilg are both ok, but still a bit sore. He said the damage to his car included the tail light, bumper, rear fender and the inner fender panel, so there is more damage than it first appears in the photo. Steve described what happened and said he was cruising along at 65 mph in the right lane when the kid in the Toyota just slammed into him at what Steve estimated at close to 80 mph. Then the kid didn't stop and Steve had to chase him a couple miles to get him to pull over. I don't think this was a matter of not seeing the Studebaker or lights as they were not on. It was mid afternoon on a bright sunny day. More likely it was an inattentive driver. Steve is insured by JC Taylor so hopefully they will help him get everything back in shape. Maybe this will be a chance to see one of those new rear fender panels that are being re-popped now?

Look at all the bug splat on the windshield of the Toyota. Its a wonder the idiot could see anything in front of him! And then to try to run away with that damage! Oh Brother!
