Found this picture in a book on 1940 autos. Caption read, "Edwards Iron Works made a slide-in box to turn the Champion into a pickup."

Yes, it was at the International Meet in 1983. If you look REAL CLOSE at the '83 meet pics I posted on the Forum about a month or so ago, you will see it amongst the pre-war Studes.

Pic comes up fine here. Good story about this car in TW years ago.If this is the one I'm thinking of,it is about 35 miles from my house. A friend of mine knows the owner.
Also,if I remember the story, there is only one or two in existence.
they also built a few of these for brand-x cars.

Edwards Iron Works did lotsa stuff for Studebaker. The M16 I owned a few years back had an EIW flatbed on it. Even specified it on the production order.

                Miscreant adrift in
                the BerStuda Triangle

                1957 Transtar 1/2ton

                1958 Provincial wagon
                1953 Commander coupe

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

When I saw that car/truck at an SDC International Meet, Richard Quinn owned it. I don't know who owns it now.

It was fitted only to the coupes and, after 1939, was the "Coupe Express".

My brother was thinking about building one using a extra M-Series box I have, since his trunk lid is the only part of the car badly rusted out. But he found a perfect deck lid in Ca. He may make a pick-up bed also.
