Any fuses will be in line most likely. No fuse box. Come over to the Studebaker Truck Site. Much knowledge there and nice folks too.

The M truck Shop Manual shows a three-fuse block. I'm not familiar enough with M-series trucks to tell you exactly where it's located, somewhere behind the dash. Lower left probably. A lot of add-on accessories have their own in-line fuse too.

A Studebaker distributor turns counterclockwise at 1/2 engine speed. A drill turning 500 RPM should give you plenty of oil pressure to prime the engine.
As for the location of the battery; more important is the size of the cables and the quality of the connections. If the battery is in the trunk I would run a ground wire to the engine block along with a wire to the starter solenoid.
