I have one question. Why not pull the good mechanical stuff off of the WRECKED car and use it to make the straight, clean one a nice driver? Seems to me that makes more sense. Unless the President is a rust bucket or something . . .

Or do you have a real sentimental attatchment to the wrecked one?

I dunno. I would just like to know . . .

The president is the one we are going to put on the road. The fenders were just sitting on there two bolts each. Removed to faciliate cleaning. Took mangled parts off of the Champion to get the bolts and to see just what's left. Plus I guess we just like to do things the hard way. We are going to start the engine in the Champion to make sure its ok before we transplant it. I hope that answers your questions. If not more than happy to answer more.

I'm real confused. I thought the Champion was the wrecked car, and it had a transplanted V8. I thought the V8 from the Champion was going into the President.

Am I wrong?[}:)]

OK! Now I understand! Looks like between the two you're gonna end up with a REALLY nice ride! I don't envy you the sweat or the cash outlay (well, maybe a little bit!).

Love those "upscale" big Studes!

HOLY COW - an rear seat ashtray that does not have the plastic cover broken off at the top!

As cool as the outside of these cars are, the original interiors are just as unique. Makes this car a "must save."

Yes, and what alot of folks don't know is that the interior door and window handles (switches in this case) as well as the ash tray and robe rail fitments, were gold plated. (Gold-toned actually) This was on the '55 President State sedans only! The metallic (Mylar?) inset on the door panels was gold on the 55 Y5s and Y6s too.[:0]
All "flat-windshield" '55 Presidents (save for the Speedster) also had a gold-faced instrument pod whereas all other models had plain chrome.
Also, '55 Presidents had gold on the front portion of their hood ornament, whereas all lesser models were all chrome.[^]

Worked on the 55's today. Right rear on the Prez was flat put a spare on it. Took the two front tires off of the 55 Champion. Was removing fender bolts. boy its amazing how when you take something loose it just springs apart. The bottom a-frame shaft was sheared off. Almost got the fenders off today. Hoods off. Bobby took these shots to show you just who is working on his cars right now. With the broken ribs he can only be a tool fetcher. Stitches come out tomorrow on Bobby also Staples.
Well we David and I are helping a fellow Club member get their Stude back on the road too. Put the carb back on and Master cylinder bled the brakes, installed a new battery. Took the generator off so I can send it to the rebuilder tomorrow. On more trip and its road worthy. We did this after David got off work. Long day.

Interesting enough, years ago before the 63 Avanti entered our lives, we had a single 55 Commander(still do). We picked up one of these bad boys from a vendor at an ordinary car show here(non-Stude) for pennies. He had no idea what it was or what it was for. We put the President hood ornament on the Commander because it looked so good. Only thing I never liked about the gold they used was this stuff seems to rub off too easily. Only one minor imperfection was in the top of the ornament which was easily concealed with chrome reflective tape.

Glad to see y'all are on the mind. I gotta say Anne that last photo of you there has got that utter look of contempt. The kind that says "What on God's green earth are you doing over there lollygagging with that camera, come help me!!" :).

What Anne forgets to mention is that it was several degrees over 100 when she was doing that work.
I used to do stuff like that in those temps, but I don't anymore.[xx(]
I was out and about in the Transtar yesterday, but that's as ambitious as I gets when it's gets to triple-digit temps![}:)]

Hi Anne
Is that '57 President in picture DSCN0917 a 2 door?

If so those are RARE, only 836 made. Unless it is beyond it, that would be my next project!!!

I think it is a Scottsman 1958 4 door. Belongs to Casey's neighbor. She wants to sell it but she wants too much for it. $2000.00 way overpriced.
