William G "Bill" Brandt

William G. "Bill" Brandt of St. Joseph, Missouri died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, September 17, 2006 at his home.

He was a member of several car clubs including The Studebaker Drivers Club, Inc.. Bill was known for open road racing in his 1963 R2 Avanti as reported in the March 2000 issue of Turning Wheels.

Bill's Avanti was badly damaged in a fire in 2004 and was in the process of being restored at the time of his death.

Bill, known to many of his friends as Big, Bad Bill Brandt, will be missed in the collector car world.

I too was shocked to learn Saturday evening of Bill's passing. His 1963 Avanti that he used to compete in open road racing, ie: Silver State Classic in Nevada, was/is featured in the September 2006 monthly car in this year's Avanti Owners Assocation calendar.
