The magazine page says November 57.
I'm sure there is much more capability in that Packard V8 that has gone untapped. I'd like to see modern effort and tech used and truly see what those beasts can do.

Hot Rod Magazine did a feature story in February 1957 on a similar build of a bored and stroked 414" Packard V8 by C-T Automotive in SoCal for Jack Lankert of Dallas. He also ran in the 141 MPH range. They claimed there were ignition problems which slowed the car.

I've always liked this photo.....The solid black color on 56J's really make all that chrome trim stand out!

My first 56J, in the late 1960s, was solid black. Still have lots of memories about that car.

Hopefully that Packard engine had improved valve retainers to go along with that 'hot cam'....I'd imagine it wouldn't be very much fun to drop a valve at 146 mph!

Almost appears it has a ’57 Golden Hawk type hood scoop installed. Don’t have my SDC Roster with me …perhaps that "Don (Donald) Stevens" is a SDC member? IF …so, might be interesting to get the whole story about this pic. & that ’56 Golden Hawk.
Now that You mention it ....it really DOES look like there might be a '57 GH hood overlay sitting up there!

Darn, the car is only about a year old and someone has already mutilated it. I see the following things "wrong": hood, whitewalls, no hubcaps, sitting too high in the rear, the rear tires look over-sized, and those look like incorrect exhaust extensions. Wonder what else we can find wrong with it

What appears to be a '57 Golden Hawk hood is actually the opposite fender...........the eye-brain has a kind of optical illusion.........because of the angle of the shot.

If its the fender, where is the fender mounted turn signal? If that is indeed the fender, I'd submit there is NO hood on the car.
