  • Engine: chevy engine swap sb chevy in a gt hawk

I am putting a sb chevy in a gt hawk, problem? exhaust on drivers side hitting gear box

  • #2
The usual solution to this is to use Chevy "rams horn" exhaust manifolds as used on millions of '60s Chevys. Center dump.

No the Ram horns drop in the center and that is where the problem is, block hugger headers make it work and they are cheap and easy to find, my 62 GT with the 327 has tube headers.

        Blockhugger headers

Their is a lot of blockhugger headers available. I used Camaro block hugger to clear motor mounts. they flow back, Might work for you.

The gear box...or is that a typo...did you mean steering box? Regardless, what gordr said should be correct. I have a 54 coupe with a sbc, and ram horns work with this set up. what mounts are you using, and where exactly is the contact. if you can be a little more specific, or provide photos we can probably help you out. Not all shorty or block huggers will work, check the archives as it has been mentioned in there. regards, Junior
