Yes, it will. The only thing you might have to change is the crankshaft bolts at the rear. This, if you're gonna change from manual shift to automatic or vise-versa. :)

Will a 12 volt starter turn a six volt system?

If the '51 is still 6 volt, wouldn't the flywheel and starter from the '51 have to be reused?

Well, he didn't ask about the electrical system.[}:)] I doubt a 12volt starter would work adequately on 6 volts!:( AND, as Blue 54 Champion points out, there ARE differences between the tooth count of the starter drives and ring gears 12V vs 6V ;)

I hope you have a complete Lark engine including the correct bell housing. Some 30 years ago I bought a 1959-60 Lark service kit from SASCO and tried to put it into my 47 M-series pickup. I ran into problems because the back of the blocks were not the same. I still have the engine, but never tracked down the parts to put it in the M. The 51 car set-up might be a little friendlier though. Just my 2 cents.

Use the 1950's starter and flywheel, the 6 volt starter will work fine on 12 volts.
