  • 1951 trunk lock

1951 commander trunk lock locking but not unlocking sometimes. Took lock mechanism apart to find a tin piece with no home. Not sure where this thin teardrop piece belongs.Purchased 51-54 chassis book but it has everything but the trunk in it.

Trunk is in the BODY book.

Lock mechanism, attached to exterior trunk handle, and latch mechanism inside trunk are distinct assemblies. Don't recognise "tin piece" without more description. I've got a working '51 trunk lock/latch on my car in my garage and will help if I can.

Don't see a thin tear dropped part in the book. The Plate Number is "Closed Bodies Plate 21-24" of the Champion and Commander Body Parts Catalog. 1951-1952 Series February, 1952. (Top Page 61). I can scan and post the page for you if you would like.

        Regards,
        Jerry

The scan is great, part no. I was referring to is 2130-35. By looks of the scan that part helps hold the gasket to the trunklid? Thank you so much for your reply. Now I can get ready for Wink's.

                Mike,
Remember, that number is an illustration number, not a part number. Referencing the illustration number to a particular year, model and body in the chassis parts catalog will reveal the particular part number.
