  • Brakes: M5 front

Hello Has any body out there converted a stock M5 front axle from drum to disc brakes? This thing does not want to stop very well. I am a 52 year old mechanic and have cheaked my lining & adjustment. I thought I would ask. tom,jr

Jim Turner at Turner Brake has a conversion kit for Studebaker 1/2 ton pickups of all years.

Another option is to use the drums you have with backing plates, shoes, hoses, etc. from a 1963-64 truck. Same 11" brakes as late Lark-types. In a pinch, you can even re-drill the mounting holes in backing plates from a Lark or '63-'66 V8 car. Shoes, wheel cylinders, springs all cheap and available. Use the rear parking brake cable from the '63-'64 truck, use the frame brackets from a car or truck of that vintage.
