That's what he says about his GT, one tiny picture, brief description and a 20K starting bid, another ebay fee donation.

    Don't ALL California-pedigree (i.e, rust-free) Studes start at $20K now?
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

        Hi, Bob,

You describe two assumptions (maybe tongue-in-cheek) which can be expensive:

        1. Because the owner lives in CA doesn't mean the car did. A friend bought a 1956 Golden Hawk with CA plates which turned out to have spent its life in MO and was a real mid-west rust bucket.

        2. Because the car spent its life in CA doesn't mean it is rust-free. CA has a thousand miles of very salty coast. Another SDC member bought an Avanti which was as rusty underneath as any mid-west car. It spent its life parked in a carport overlooking the beach.

My car (from Washington State originally) had Beach Sand through out it... even when I pulled the dash, probably 2 cups worth fell out. No rust though... Must have been parked at the beach or in a sand dune.

Funny, my car came from Tacoma Washington, to Florida, back to Tacoma. When I pulled the rear seat I swept up over two cups. I at first thought those Johnson boys must have gone to the beach alot as kids. That's until I got under the car and kept getting sand in my eyes. I then cleaned the frame, or should I say swept the frame. There was even sand mixed with oil that I scraped off the frame. Mine must have lived across from by a beach at some time in it's life.

While it wasn't a Studebaker, my first new car was an '86 Escort GT. The family had rented a house on the beach in NC in '86 and the house was on stilts and you parked under the house. We were there for a week, and I can't tell you how much sand got into that car. Every morning the right door sill was packed with sand from the breeze off the ocean during the night. Sounds to me lthat sdomeone left the windows open on that Hawk while it was at the beach in FL.

You don't even have to live at the beach to have sand in your car. In 1956 my family was visiting relatives in Texas in our 50 Champion. My dad went outside one morning to find the little boy from next door dumping pail after pail of sand from his sandbox into the floor of our car. [:0] His mother just made some excuse and did not even offer to help clean out the car.
