  • Transmission / Overdrive: Overdrive seal

I have a three speed with overdrive and I'm replacing the rear seal. The old one that I just hooked out is nearly 3/4" long and the new one I was sent is 1/2" - is this OK? Do I recess it 1/4" or set it flush with the outside or should I get one 3/4" long? Thanks -- Nick

I don't know what year or vehicle the gearbox came from - its not the original. It is a T86E - 1A. What vehicle would that be?

Also, be sure to clean the yoke shaft real good. Then, take a piece of 240 grit sandpaper and wrap it around the shaft, put your hand around it, then twist it round & round to break the glaze and scuff the surface. This will insure the seal breaks in well and doesn't leak- hopefully !
