Below the bottom edge of the dash, all the way to the left is a small white knob. this is the rheostat for the dash lights. It often doesn't work due to corrosion. Sometimes you can get it working again by lubricating it and turning it back and forth a few dozen times. It is only in use though when the dash light switch is in the center position. The lights should be on full bright when the switch is all the way up. Don't know if that will help.

If the "dash light" you mention is the Instrument Lights, all of them the Instr. Lt. Switch to the right of the Head light switch as Rob mentioned needs to be on "HI" second click on the top of the rocker switch from OFF.
If the headlights are on and none of the Instruments light, it is the Instr. Lt. Switch that is the problem unless the switch light bulbs and 4 or 6 Instrument Light bulbs are all burned out, highly unlikely but anything is possible.
You need to have some #53 small for Switch Lts. & Auto. Trans. Dial Light and #57 large for Instruments on hand anyway for replacement when needed and for testing.
They may have to be crossed over to a new part number from the charts at your local Auto Parts Store, but do not be surprised if you have to teach them to read Books and Charts however, since most young ones only know how to read a computer which is never ANY help.StudeRich
