  • Ignition: Starting Problem

I think this is a simple fix but as of now I'm stumped. When I try to start the engine it will turn over but not start until I release the ignition key a little and then it will fire. I know I have run across this before but can't recall the fix. Oh yeh it's a 63 289 in a 56 Skyhawk.

There should be a wire from the starter solenoid , bypassing the resister, to the + side of the ignition coil. It may have come off the small terminal (marked Ign.)
If your solenoid only has 1 small terminal, then there should be a wire from the start position on the ignition switch inside the car.

Yeah, either that or your switch contacts are worn and you need a new switch.
