  • Electrical: Cadillac 4note horns on a 57 Silver Hawk

Will Cadillac 4 note horns work on a 1957 Silver Hawk 12v?

I'm sure they won't know which car on which they are mounted.

      I guess that says no.
Will they work if I replace the horn relay?

I would not jump to that conclusion. You will probable need a heavy duty relay to carry the current of four horns.
Just be ready for the clear tone.

Actually, it means the horns will have no idea they are not on a Cadillac.

I put a pair of beautifully matched horns from a 67 Olds Delta 88 on my wife's Honda. WOW, did it ever get people's attention when she needed it. She said even big trucks would respect that sound. I've got a similar set on my work truck. It helps when people are dumb bunnies on the road and need a gentle reminder of my right of way. As a result of our success, our children have done the same for some of their cars. My son put a pair of older horns on his wifes car, but he ran those through a relay. Works great.

The older Cadillacs had a trumpet horn in addition to the usual high & low note horns that really put out a blast. I wouldnt worry about the relay unless you lay on the horn for an extended period of time impersonating an air raid siren for instance! I have a set on my 68 Le Mans & never had a problem with the horn circuit.

I've had 6 volt horns on a 12 volt system with no problem. I've never held the horns on for an extended time, just short blasts to get texters and cell phone users to realise that the green lights mean "GO". I had a set of 39 Plymouth trumpet horns on a Corvair, inside the front trunk where the original horns were. They were loud, but I think most of the sound came into the passenger compartment instead of out the front. That was a bad move.
