Did this car come with this car, or is it an add-on by a dealer or later owner. I was expecting a Carter AFB. Can anyone tell me the Rochester (or Studebaker) part number for this. It works good, except for a little lag due to accelerator pump.

It would originally have been equipped with a WCFB Carter 4 barrel. No Rochesters were ever used by Studebaker. The AFB did not come along until 1963 on Studebakers.Frank van Doorn

The Rochester 4GC is a good carb, but not as good as a later quadrajet. The wcfb Carter is what should be on the 57.Bez Auto Alchemy

Wandering off topic here, but what was Studebaker-Packard thinking in 1955-56? They were using starters, generators and distributors from both Autolite and Delco, then buying carburetors from Stromberg, Carter and Rochester.
It would have seemed they could negotiate a better price, as well as simplify the supply lines and parts departments if they'd have gone with just one supplier.
