Did this car come with this car, or is it an add-on by a dealer or later owner. I was expecting a Carter AFB. Can anyone tell me the Rochester (or Studebaker) part number for this. It works good, except for a little lag due to accelerator pump.

It would originally have been equipped with a WCFB Carter 4 barrel. No Rochesters were ever used by Studebaker. The AFB did not come along until 1963 on Studebakers.

Carter, except for the Rochester on the 1956 Golden Hawk.

What did the '56 GH come standard with? I have worked on several, but my memory seems to be off on this item.

The Rochester 4GC is a good carb, but not as good as a later quadrajet. The wcfb Carter is what should be on the 57.

Wandering off topic here, but what was Studebaker-Packard thinking in 1955-56? They were using starters, generators and distributors from both Autolite and Delco, then buying carburetors from Stromberg, Carter and Rochester.

It would have seemed they could negotiate a better price, as well as simplify the supply lines and parts departments if they'd have gone with just one supplier.

FWIW; 1956 Golden Hawks came with a CARTER WCFB, MODEL 2394S carb.
