Nothing like locking up all your Christmas shopping in a convertible.

Looks like Mass. Plates on the Studebaker. If the driver or store owner was insured with The Hartford,

my dad probably did the claim adjustment!

He was also driving a 1952 Studebaker.

Does the police car also appear to be a Studebaker?

There was a Trimont Motors DeSoto Plymouth in Cambridge, Mass.

Hard to tell, but after blowing up the shot I would say no. The wheel cover and front bumper don't look right for a Studebaker.

Looks like the New Deal barber shop had a close shave! Hope that cop got to take a few of those oranges home to his kids! Cop car looks like a 53-4 Ford to me - with a GM product looking straight at the camera.

I wondered the same thing. But a second look tells me the angle of the rear edge of the vent glass is not correct for a 47-52 era Stude. It is too vertical.

My guess was a '49 through roughly '53 Ford but that can't be right unless they took off the side trim to make it a police car.

Maybe Ford did remove the side trim for a police package, as shown on this '54? This looks very similar to the one in the original photo.
