    Where was real wood used on a Studebaker after the war? Not necessarily talking about woodies, but elsewhere?

    Which war?
    Studebaker went through quite a few of them
    I know a lot of them had a block of hardwood in the steering column mount...

      Which war?
      Studebaker went through quite a few of them
      I know a lot of them had a block of hardwood in the steering column mount...

        Champ pickups had wood blocks under the seat frame to raise them to the appropriate highth.

                I believe that when the wooden bodies went away, Studebaker downsized it's wood shop and continued to make shipping crates, station wagon cargo area floors and rear seat backs, steering column spacers, front seat spacers for short people, and probably many shop fixtures and factory "tools" like the jig they used to push the Larks up against on the doll-up line when the front fenders would not fit!

                  I believe that when the wooden bodies went away, Studebaker downsized it's wood shop and continued to make shipping crates, station wagon cargo area floors and rear seat backs, steering column spacers, front seat spacers for short people, and probably many shop fixtures and factory "tools" like the jig they used to push the Larks up against on the doll-up line when the front fenders would not fit!

                    I was just wondering..... my 62 GT has wooden spacers under the drivers seat, and a wooden spacer between the dash and parking brake handle. It just made me wonder where else they used wood.

                        The station wagons had rear seat backings make of wood as well as the spare tire cover - right thru 1966! The 47 thru '51 Business coupes had a plywood shelf behind the seat backs of THE seat. (Notice I said THE seat and not the FRONT seat - 3-passenger coupes only HAD one Seat.)
