  • 53 Window crank question

Does anyone know if the splines on the window cranks are the same as Ford window crank splines?

In other words would Ford handles fit a Studebaker, or vice versa?

I think 53's had square shafts, with a screw in the middle holding it on.

From what I can see, and I may be wrong, as my cranks are not stock,I thought I had a splined shaft that the previous owner had slipped some sort of square tube over, and then the cranks which do have a screw in the middle.

'53 and '54 have square shafts with a screw as stated. '55 and later have splines but still use a screw to hold them on. Not sure when clips were first used but larks have them.

The '53 and '54 cranks have a sort of heart shaped flat knob on the window crank. In '55 they are round.

55's still had the square shaft. They went to splines in 56.
ALTHOUGH, Tom of "Studebaker of Lompoc" fame recently bought a running, bare bones, low priced, 57, [I don't think it was a Scotsman]
4 door. It had square shafts.
So they must have used up existing inventory on the cheap models.
