  • A SAD DAY IN SOUTH BEND!

I remember it well …September 2, 1960, was a sad day for us in South Bend!!!

    Who else remembers this?
Although the details are very difficult to read; the South Bend Tribune headline said it all.

The next day’s South Bend Tribune pictured the grim reality of it.

Anyone heard or knows the current whereabouts of that Studebaker Corporation owned Lark Convertible South Bend Mayor Voorde was driving that fateful day? I’ve heard many “local rumors” over the years, but nothing for certain. Anyone care to add what they know about the fate of that Lark Convertible???

That story about shell hitting army tent. I was just 5 tents down from where that mortar round hit.

Don't know about the convertible, but I do know where his '59 four door is.

What an awful event. This is the first I had heard of it. Was the cause ever determined?

It's definately not the first one, that one is a '63.

On a separate & brighter note; is that YOUR 'new' Black ('47-'52?) Stude I saw yesterday inside that body shop a mile or so (SR 23 & Mayflower Rd.) from your home?

I think they are both '60s. No wraparound windshield in '63.
