View Full Version : New wheels for Barney

Finally swapped rid of the rusty Cragars for a set of Chrysler OEM style steelies and chrome lug nuts. My wife says caps would look good; I'm inclined to run 'em bare. Dunno, but either way the new tires and wheels make me happy :)

Trim rings

IMHO The black wheels and black wall tires look a bit stark. It needs some shine or contrast. Either a hub cap or a brighter color wheel would make it pop. Of course, we are going by the picture and it may look a bit different to the eye.

Clark,

Are those sbp or bbp Mopar rims?

Are the reverse side of the tires white letter? If so, I would run them white letters out. Just for contrast. Looks good though!

The CAR looks a bit stark. I think it's a good fit. Kinda completes the whole package.

I like the black wheels but like others here I think maybe a simple trim ring would be nice. As far as the aforementioned white letters on the side walls for me that never works. Of course maybe it is for the same reason I don't care for white sidewalls.....you have to keep 'em clean!

If those are factory Chrysler/Dodge wheels the Cop Car Caps should fit, just a bit pricey from the hub cap guys.

Clark, Are those sbp or bbp Mopar rims?

I'm not sure of the nomenclature you're using, George. But they're '73 - '81 Chrysler 15x6. They fit perfectly :)

I'm actually thinking of '70 Super Bee center caps:

http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/wvi-2050-1_w.jpg

A little bling without being overly flashy.

Of course, it'll take Baby Moons, too:

http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/wvi-1011-a-1_w.jpg

Choices...

But Chrysler trim rings would work too, and leave just the chrome lug nuts visible:

my 1st thought was baby moons, but i think the trim rings w/the chrome lug nuts would look pretty cool! :)

anyone have pics or good at photoshop?

Just out of courisity could you put 1963 full wheel covers on them? Studebaker of course.

Mr. Palma says that Stude full covers will work on these wheels, but I like the look of the steelies... more muscular.

chrylser center caps like from the early 70 road runner will fit in the regular chrysler rims, might give the center a pop...

New tires and wheels always make you feel good and safe too. I think the beauty rings and chrome lugs will look fine, baby moons are classic.

Maby a outer trim-ring, but that's it! Loox kinda ol' fashion racy & Nashcar-styled... Cruel, raw, naughty & RIGHT!!!

To me the Chrysler trim ring is to big. There are narrow trim rings out there that should give those black wheels just the about of bling that will provide a minimal contrast. I looked at the Mopar Cop Car center caps, but liked the chrome of traditional baby moons. Of course the wheels on the Cruiser are pretty close to ermine white. On the black wheels you might not need all that much chrome to make a really good visual statement.

Clark,

The Chrysler cop car wheels of that era were often fitted with the small hubcap (aluminum) that had a series of holes around outer edge for ventilation. Those would really show off good with the black wheels and black tires. Sorry I don't have a picture of the cap, but someone else may be able to post one. Your car looks great, congrats on your progress.

"The new tires and wheels make me happy" That's what you said and that's what counts. Looks like the same wheel I have on the front of my 53, with dog dish. Personally, I like it.

I wouldn't change a thing. The chrome lugnuts are enough twinkle.
The Lark looks badass, like an endurance/rally car.
Now what color magnetic number balls you putting on the sides? :)

If so inclined, there's plenty of vented "Mopar Cop Hubcaps" for sale - just search those terms.
Same design you posted, only with vent holes in the front:

Andy,

Thanks for posting the hubcap pic. Kind'a neat, different and does not have a name or symbol on it. It also goes along with the spartan appearance of the "Standard" model Stude.

I do like those police-style caps - is anyone reproducing them? The plain, unmarked Dodge caps are made new by Vintiques...

Thanks for all the recommendations guys - I found and purchased a set of the Dodge/Plymouth police caps, which came in the mail yesterday. A quick buff with the Nevr-Dull and on they went. I think they really look great!

I need 2 wheels for my '64 Cruiser. I have advertised and no one has answered. Where can I get 2 wheels that my original hubcaps will fit on?

Do you want brand-new wheels, or good used?

Does your Cruiser have small, dog-dish "hubcaps," or full wheel covers?

There should be no trouble finding a pair of wheels for that car in California. BP

Hi Cindy! I'm in Oceanside. Welcome to the Forum!

Perhaps some folks in the San Diego Chapter have some wheels. Private Message or email me and I'll hook you up with them.
