  • Steering: PS cylinder

My PS cylinder seems to be leaking...bad, especially on sharp right turns.
I've been told that those symptoms must mean a worn or rusty place on the shaftor something more than just worn seals.
    Correct?

If so, I'm guessing it would be better to get a new/rebuilt cylinder.
    Any suggestions as to where?
SI doesn't list them and Nostalgic wants a pretty penny for a rebuilt unit.
They can't be THAT rare can they?

    PN is 1551362.

Well I guess some smart arse could say "Just go Left" but I won't

      Studebaker parts lists:

      PST001 POWER STEERING RAM KIT
PST001 #1553403 800146 1959-66 PASSENGER CARS AND AVANTI BENDIX POWER CYLINDER (RAM) REPAIR KIT
THIS IS FOR THE LONG CYLINDER MOUNTED UNDER THE RADIATOR

      $19.00

Why not mike the rod and cylinder and if relatively close rebuild it. Even if it's slightly worn, new seals may help. Less than $30 with shipping. $19 for the seals alone.

I've asked a friend and poster here...he thinks that the fact it leaks only in one direction may mean ther is rust or damage to the rod.
I hate to waste time and effort on a rebuild when more is needed.
