  • Christine's alter ego-update-FIXED!!

Well, it looks like Christine wants to be a gasser. My son drove to school yesterday and we have a weird hill that pretty much makes the suspension run it's complete travel. It looks like when he hit the hill, the suspension extended all the way and did not return to where it should. Now the right side is hung in the high position.
I looked at it briefly this morning and don't see anything out of place. I can pick the front end up slightly and drop it and when it drops, it hits something solid, still high in the air. Putting weight on the front end lets the left side move up and down, but the right side will not budge.
Anyone seen or heard of anything like this? I guess I'll be looking at it this weekend.

We got a good look at Christine today. The upper control arm bushing was almost completely gone, causing the control arm to move towards the engine and the pinch bolt got hung up on the frame. New bushing made everything right with the world today. Thanks Paul for the suggestion of the too long pinch bolt. It led me in the right direction.

Maybe the shock absorber is broken and is jammed in the extended position?

That's kind of what I hope it is.

I have had shocks do that to me....

Did you try backing over that same hill at that same speed to 'undo' it?

Sometimes the upper suspension snubber can fall out, and jamb where it does not belong, but yours looks more like a dead shock.

To: starliner62,---------It must take a lot of willpower not to crawl under there with a flashlight to see what's going on!

I would jack up the other side and call it good.

that car had a wheel bearing seize on the spindle once. The PO repaired it with parts removed from a 63 cruiser. And it was the right side. I don't think there is any difference in the parts used for the repair but you might want to bear that in mind. NT

Oh heck, I think I know where we can get a straight front axle from a C-cab here in town. Let's just make it a real gasser!

I would guess that before we alter the car too much, we should ask the kid that owns it!!!

i had a chance to take the front shock off today. No change. I'll get it on the lift this weekend and see whats up.

Maybe the pinch bolt on the top of the kingpin is too long and hanging up on something?
