I have a great running 259, I will be putting in to my 62 hawk. It is currently a 4 speed. I have a smooth 3 speed over drive to mate with the 259 and they were together in the donor car. Wife Kathy ie K in the K-hawk. Suggested if the Hawk had an auto in it she could drive it. What would be the best brand x tranny to use with the 259.

I think the best automatic transmission to use in this case is the one that sets behind the engine in Kathys car. The cost and work of upgrading to a 4-speed auto from brand X would cover the cost of some of the Larks that have been discussed on the forum. That way you would both have the tranny you want at relatively low cost overall.
If it's a permission issue, I'm sure some one one the forum could issue a slip to that effect.
To directly answer your question on Brand X trannys, 700R4 0r 200R4 GM issues.

I agree with Bob, the 700R4 or 200R4 GM autos are the way to go for a brand "X". Like Bob mentioned it isn't cheap though, the simplest and probably least expensive route would be to install a Studebaker auto.

I am pretty sure that Kathy did not picture another car when all she wants is an automatic, never hurts to ask. That 3 speed over drive is still looking good or perhaps just leave the 4 speed in it.The Hawk was a 3 speed overdrive at some point in it's life. Will the clutch linkage for the 4 speed work the 3 speed over drive tranny ?
Will the clutch-pressure plate-throw out -bearing- and the fork off the pedal from the 4 speed work too. I have the O/D cable. Thanks for the help.I want to be as ready as possible so the swap goes smooth and quick. K-Hawk

The 4-speed is the easiest to drive. Many who didn't grow up with a non-synchro low gear get intimidated by trying to downshift to low at a roll.
The 3-speed OD is by far the best, most relaxed cruiser. If you were ever lucky enough to find the '57-58 GH T85 overdrive, it would be a drop in, other than the driveshaft. IIRC, the T86 requires some different brackets for the tranny side of the clutch linkage. Either way, the disc should be the same. Definitely find a Hurst shifter.

Simple solution Teach your Kathy how to drive a standard shift car. My Cathy can and has driven three on the tree, four on the tree, three on the floor, four on the floor. This keeps life a lot simpler.Gary L.
