  • Stude Repo'd on Operation Repo

Anyone see that '55 get repo'd tonight on Operation Repo on TruTV?

Could not believe that the guy who'd bought it and who it was being repo'd from had converted the engine bay into a friggin' barbecue grill.

What kind of mind finances a car through a vintage car dealership and then pulls the engine and converts the car to an oversized barbecue? Oy!

Those "reality" TV shows are highly scripted. My daughter worked as a "repo man" for many years and never encountered anything remotely like the bizarre scenarios shown on every segment of those repo shows. I hope no Studebakers were harmed in the filming of that one.

Was it a sedan? Was it down in SoCal? Maybe a white car with flames?

Seems like we saw the build here on this Forum just last year...

        Hi,

It was a black car with flames and the front chrome and bumper all painted bright flame-colored yellow.

I've never seen a white one, but a guy here on the forum cobbled up a 55 with a grill under the hood and table where the interior was. It was black with flames. Last I knew he was trying to sell it but nobody seemed to want it. I tried to search but couldn't find the thread. I believe he cut up a couple other cars to do the same thing.

Those shows like Op Repo are all fake. The terrible acting should have tipped you off. I did repo work for 9 years, and pros try to avoid confrontation, and certainly don't escalate things by being a loudmouth like they do on that show. I really doubt there's a morbidly obese woman who gets winded walking to the door doing repos in the real world like on that show. I didn't realize that show was still on.

EDITED TO ADD: I found the thread. Enjoy

Don't ask me why, but I rememebered that to be a white car.
So that makes it official- I have totally lost my mind!!!
I guess that also explains how I got talked into running (and being elected) President.

I believe the black car-b-que with flames that was discussed here on the forum a while back was listed for sale on Ebay sometime in the last few months.

Perhaps it was purchased on Ebay and financed by the current owner?

It was cool, but anyone who knows Studebakers will tell you that the thought of having to stick your head under the hood all the time while Qing with that hood latch hanging down is a recipe for disaster. Unless of course you like your steak extra bloody!

                  Hi,

Yeah, I know the show is fake; they have a disclaimer at the beginning of the show that says the stuff is "inspired" by real cases or something like that. That wasn't the point. I just couldn't believe that some guy hacked up a classic car to make a barbecue.

Nor did I when it was happening.

Those guys in California have NO IDEA how good they have it.
They part out (and/or cut up) perfectly good cars everyday...
