  • The Avanti made it to In N Out in Santa Barbara

Well ... after an 8 month absence, the Avanti finally made it back to
In N Out in Santa Barbara. No where near done, and springing an oil
leak (surprising for a Studebaker), it got there and safely back
home after the 110 mile round trip.

Wow, you really are a distance from anything when you need to drive 55 miles to get a burger and fries

Congrats on getting the Avanti back on the road.

Thanks guys, with the input from Paul on my power steering questions
thread, I am confident that the issues I felt while driving can be a
memory after messing with it today. The vacuum vent I made for the
fuel pump worked GREAT, and kept the oil either in the engine, or in
to the carb - which is less messy. Its strange to drive the car
and NOT have to add water, so the core plugs were worth doing.

I work 55 miles from home - in Santa Barbara City, a group of diehard
car guys show up there each friday and hang out until 1-2 am. I used
to just hang out at work until 8:30pm, but Corporate changed policies
and even though I have been locking up the building for the last three
years, I am suddenly not trustworthy enough to do it any longer.[xx(]
So now I need to find something ELSE to do then surf these forums and
kill 3 hours after work. I can't get a laptop to use wireless, since
they dont allow laptops into the building anymore-certainly not going
to leave it in the car! I had to have my wife drive the same 55 miles
to bring me the digital camera to take the pictures, since I didnt want
to leave that in the car either. Just some insight into what had to go
down just to bring that picture to you guys.

Shes a trooper, 110 mile round trip after having surgery on tuesday.

          What's "show-n-shine night", Jeff?

          Tom

PS : Funny story from friday, I had to go to Napa to pick up what I
needed to make the vent tube, but I also had to pick up pain pills for
my wife. I went to Napa first and parked out front. I had some guy
inside the store start asking me questions about the Avanti, I snuck
away from him, then I went outside and got stopped again. Dodged him
after only a few questions, and got into the car, then an old guy rode
up on a bike .. and started a rather long story .. I finally had to
apologize for being rude but I had to split to pick up medication for
my wife. That worked! So if you guys are ever stuck with a "circler"
and need to leave .. try the wife/medication excuse.

Not yet ... but I have heard about a plan for security name badges
that log your arrival and departure, along with unlocking the door.

I'll bet you hang out during the days within 10 miles of CSU-SB.

We spent several weeks in March about 4o miles or so east of there, near SANt Ynez and Solvang. Love to drive the "Black Shadow" up SAn MArco Pass road to Santa Ynez.

                Glad the fp fox worked.

We have the radio keys where I work and they log you in and out plus control the hours you can enter. Fortunately, I have 24-7 access, but most employees can only get in during their normal work day.

Glad to see you back on the road, Tom.

A trip to In-N-Out is worthwhile no matter how long. I sure wish we had them back east.

Tom - you should call my daughter, Stephanie, next time you need to kill some time. She would love to not only meet you but see your Avanti (she misses mine!). She works downtown on State Street.

I plan to visit her this fall and hope we can get together.

                          Cheers,
