View Full Version : Ammended Search for Avanti II

I have decided to ammend my search for the Avanti II, 4 speed to the entire U.S. & possibly Canada. Still looking for ac,ps,pb,pw and 350 engine. I would also consider a 1980's 4- speed.

I think your best chance for a 4 speed Avanti II are the very early ones. They would also have the best of the left over Studebaker frames. They would have a 327 engine, however, not a 350. You could always replace the 327 with a 350 if you have to have the 350, but many would argue the 327 was a better engine.

And although I don't have any figures handy, I believe the percentage of Avanti IIs with 4-spd declined steadily from 66 to 74 until going to zero in 1975.

WRT frames, it was my impression that Avanti Motors was able to obtain original-design frames from Budd until around 1980 or so. The story I heard was that Budd increased the minimum order size from 300 to several thousand, and Avanti couldn't afford to buy that many at one time (and probably didn't have the room to store that many either).

1965 through the early 1970 models had the 327. Later 1970 and 1971 had the 350. 1972-1974 had the 400. I won't cover the later years because it seems you want an early four speed. I don't know why you would want a 350 in particular. I have had 327, 350 and 400 engines and find them to be similar. My 1968 Corvette with a 350 HP 327 and four speed was a fun car to drive.

1965 through the early 1970 models had the 327. Later 1970 and 1971 had the 350. 1972-1974 had the 400. I won't cover the later years because it seems you want an early four speed. I don't know why you would want a 350 in particular. I have had 327, 350 and 400 engines and find them to be similar. My 1968 Corvette with a 350 HP 327 and four speed was a fun car to drive.
