  • A Scene from a possible SciFi movie,"Coming Home From Lake Afton".

I was over at Lake Afton today for our usual raindance car show.
We had a good showing at our Studebaker club area. Later on
I was driving back from Wichita, Ks tonight after eating supper with my nephew.
We looked at the radar and saw a line of thunderstorms where popping up.
They where at Hutchinson but where headed north.
Well I though about it, and decided to go for it.
It was either go or no go. They where only going to get worse.
I was driving on 96 north to go to Hutchinson,Ks, and could see the thunderhead, but it was north,
but you could see the squall line.
But its a bad sign when you see the local TV station storm chasing van on the side of the road.
Then later he catches and passes me. And I'm doing 70mph.
I''m now passing under the squall line and I have cloud rotation above my head.
I kick it up to 85mph to get out from under.
I'm passing by Haven, Ks at about 8:30pm. Its raining and starting to hail(small)pea to marble.
The tornado sirens are going off in Haven, I can hear them. But I could see sun and blue sky
on the western horizon, so I keep pushing on.
Then I hit this red fog that lasts for about a mile.
It had already gotten spooky miles back.
I then push out, clear as a bell. Cars stopped on both sides of the highway.
I'm guessing they where waiting for the storm to pass.
And they probably wonder where this Blue 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk comes out of thunderstorm and red fog bank
at 85mph. Or was it 88?

Where did you mount the flux capacitor? A Hawk should be plenty big. :-)

Kansas is not for amateurs. Beautiful place, but it can be stark and unforgiving. Some coastal types find it boring; I've never been there on a boring day.

I guess I'd be wondering what kind of stuff in the air could cause a red fog and do I want to be breathing it?

That was one thing I noticed when I drove out to pick up my truck in Nw Kanas, their is no where to get away from a storm , no wonder people get under bridges! I saw deer and foxes(4 legged) out in the open ,I don't think they had any choice.
