I'm trying to ID the year of intake that I'm running on my Lark. It has larger secondaries than then the primaries so I asume that it 63 or 64. The casting is #1557144, then what looks to be a 9 27 R with a flat head looking screw casted on each side of the number. Thanks for the help in advance. :)

There's only ONE late 4bbl manifold listed (including for R1-R2 cars). It takes an AFB carb. The other numbers you mention are a date code.:)

I wasn't sure about the other numbers. I found the intake years ago in a pile of picked through Stude parts that nobody else wanted.

If it is indeed the late/late model AFB Stude intake manifold, it will have the carb mount casting area large enough so the Holley bolt pattern 'could' be drilled and tapped into it and either a Holley or an AFB carb could bolt up. Otherwise, they are the same.

I still don't know what manifold I have. It accepts a AFB, but has the four small WCFB ports. BTW, the is more then one AFB manifold, check the Avanti engine parts.

Sounds like you have the '55-'62 WCFB manifold, does it have the coil mounting screw holes? Early ones and some "C" cab Trucks do not.

Interesting though, I am sure the R2 had larger secondary holes. BUT...they have an error in the standard Engine section, it shows the R2 W/Supercharger) part # 1557843 (from the Jet Thrust Section) as standard AFB 4 Brl. '63-'64 equipment! The Jet Thrust section shows 1557472 as the R1 version, which must be the correct (larger than primary but smaller secondary) one for Std. AFB that SHOULD be in the regular engine section, (earlier # which also makes sense)!![:0] DAH!

This is the same scenario I found on the Jet Thrust & Avanti Fuel Pump Eccentric, it appears that they wrote the JT Section FIRST & copied the Jet Thrust Section to create the '63-'64 update to the '59-'64 Chassis Parts Catalog and got in a hurry and made mistakes by taking High performance parts to the standard section that actual were NOT common and vice versa!!

John; does your Avanti Parts Cat. show the correct 1557843 for R2??[?]

It has the coil mounting screws but did not think a afb would drop on. (all though the holes are too small) The Avanti parts book does show the correct manifold.

Yup! I think the bolt pattern is the same IF it's a Carter AFB, but the aftermarket Carters (900 series) and Edelbrocks have 6 holes so it can fit the other pattern also (Holly/Ford?)
